Development Cooperation with the German Aerospace Center ‚Deutsches Zentrum für Luft- und Raumfahrt e. V. (DLR)‘

At the end of 2020, the German Aerospace Center approached Schomäcker Federnwerk to become their competent development partner in the field of chassis technology/engineering for the pioneering Next Generation Train (NGT) chassis, with the aim to make innovative technologies and research findings accessible to the rail industry through novel train concepts, such as the Next Generation Trains by DLR.

The task was not only to develop a primary spring for connection to the frame but also to manufacture this parabolic spring by means of state-of-the-art production facilities.

Observation of the suspension specifications was a key factor in the development of the spring in order to facilitate the highly sensitive control of the demo chassis on a test rig.

The engineers of Schomäcker Federnwerk have also lent their support in the construction and the design of the connection points of the parabolic springs.

Following their development and manufacture at the Melle plant and after having passed all relevant tests, the parabolic springs were  delivered in time to the Aerospace Center.
