In 1880 Heinrich Schomäcker and his stepbrother Friedrich Heinrich Schnatmeier founded the „Wagenfederfabrik Schomäcker & Co“. Schomäcker had already been running his own forging workshop in Hamburg since 1872. With eight workers, Friedrich Schnatmeier opens the wagon spring factory on his parent‘s farm property in Altenmelle.

A 150 Years Long Timeline

1880
Company founded in Altenmelle
on the current location.

1884
A first steam engine and
the first two rollers are purchased.

1888
More than 80 workers are now employed. The company was transformed into Altenmeller Wagenfedern Aktiengesellschaft

1945
At the end of the war, the factory was not destroyed. Replacement springs were produced for the British army.

1955
Participation in the International Motor Show in Frankfurt. From 1959 Schomäcker was also present at the Motor Show in Paris.

1955
A materials testing and research laboratory was set up. The technological leadership has been expanding since then.

1957
The production burned down completely within 2 hours. Schomäcker nevertheless achieved 80 % of its sales that year and in 1958 the plant was fully operational again with the most modern machinery in the industry.

1959
Schomäcker had a strong focus on development and numerus patents were granted. British and French spring factories received manufacturing licenses for these patents. Prototypes were delivered as far away as Japan.

2023
The next generation takes the baton - Joachim and Luiz Sommer together with Hubert Temmen and Klaus Borchelt are the new shareholders. Horst Schnatmeier remains as the last member of the founding family.

2024
The new corporate design is published. The logo represents the new vision, new values of collaboration and new growth opportunities.
